Scholarships

Could you use some help funding your BYU Geography education?

Thanks to our generous donors, the Geography Department is able to offer several scholarships and other funding opportunities for our majors:

Experiential Learning

Class field trips, mentored field research, presentation at conferences, and other faculty-led experiences are generally funded by the department with minimal cost for students. Our faculty are also able to hire assistants for their own research using university and department grants.

If you have an idea or an opportunity for your own experiential learning project, talk to a professor about potential grant funding.

Tuition Scholarships

Several of our donors have funded specific scholarship programs to honor our great students. Some are awarded based on academic merit, while others focus more on helping students in financial need. Generally, each awarded student will receive half tuition for one semester (roughly $1,500).

Applications are open February 1-March 1 for the next school year, and announced in April. Note: you must be registered for at least 12 credit hours during the semester you are awarded.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Our donor experiential learning funds are also used to help fund our great study abroad programs, greatly reducing the cost to participants. On top of that, we offer scholarships to our major students, both for participation in our own programs, or other study abroad programs on campus. The awards are typically for up to $1,000, depending on available funds.

Applications are open February 1-March 1 for the next school year, and announced in April. Note: you must be already registered for the program to be considered, and have made your first payment.
